Red Wine Lemonade

I made this last night and boy, was it good! I had some bottles of wine left over from going to a winery earlier this year, and decided this would be a good way to use them up. The wine I used was a blackberry wine, and it worked really well in this drink. It basically tastes like a sparkling lemonade, with a little bit of a wine taste. The wine doesn't come through as much as I thought it would, it's more lemonade-y, but I think something would be missing without it. Anyway, it's a great summer drink and I'd highly recommend it if you have an extra bottle of wine sitting around or a bottle that has just a little left in it--it only takes 3/4 cup of wine & the recipe makes an entire pitcher. Enjoy!

Red Wine Lemonade

  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar (may increase up to 1/3 cup)
  • 1/3 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice (approx. 2 lemons) (may increase up to 1/2 cup), plus lemon slices for garnish
  • 3/4 cup dry red wine (may decrease to 1/2 cup)
  • 28 ounces club soda, chilled
  • crushed ice

Combine sugar, lemon juice and your favorite red wine in a medium to large pitcher; stir until sugar dissolves. Stir in club soda; pour over crushed ice in desired serving glasses. Garnish with lemon slices and serve immediately. Enjoy!

Yield: approximately 1 quart.
